Happy Anniversary, Mom & Dad B!!!

Palmer Sunset

Taken off the back porch at my Mom's house in Palmer, Alaska.
Breathtaking, isn't it?

Merry (late) Christmas, Everyone!

Merry (late) Christmas, Everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! It's Wednesday, and I'm back at work in Homer, but wishing I was still at my Mom's in Palmer. We had a great weekend full of SNOW, FOOD and my Crazy Family! On Christmas day there was 31 of us sardined into my Mom's house...AND my dog! There were a few people who couldn't come. I'm not sure where we would have put them, had they showed up!
Jason is in Boise. He called me this morning at 8 and had just stepped off the plane. He will stay with Dusty and Chandra for a few days, then plans to go see Steph and Kevin as well. For all of you that want to see him, give him a call! 907-399-1553. I know he misses you all, and Montana as well. I'm not sure when he'll be in the Missoula area, or when he and Rod plan on heading out, but I know he would love to see his family.
I love you all. Have a Wonderful New Year! And all you Montanan's - don't forget to call Jason!
Love, Joanie

All the Pretty Little Horses

Just making the rounds, visiting the horses. Another "excuse" to enjoy the fresh fallen snow. Above is Capri, below is Sky. And that cute little weiner doggy is Spensor. He's on loan from our friends Tyson & Ailsa. :)

Winter Wonderland.

It's been snowing pretty heavily the last few days. Jason and I spent the afternoon shoveling off the deck. When we were through our cheeks and noses were pink, so we decided we needed to take a winter picture. It is definately going to be a white Christmas in Homer!

City League Basketball

Tonight was Jason's first city league basketball game. It was great to see him out there playing again. His teams consists of 8 guys, though tonight they only played with 6. The guys lost 57-65, but they played well and had fun doing it.
Good luck this season, guys!

Sunset

The colors of the sunset here in Alaska are far more vibrant than these photos let on. The sky turns pink, the mountains begin to glow, and the ocean reflects the light, creating a visual masterpiece.

Sunset and Mt. Augustine. Augustine is an active island volcano about 120 km South West of Homer. It is one of several Cook Inlet volcanos, which also include Mt. Redoubt, Illiamna and Spur. This photo was taken off of the porch of the house we live at.

Halloween Pumpkins

I know, I know, Halloween has come and gone. I just wanted to share our adorable pumpkins! Our friends, Tyson and Ailsa Hall, invited us over to do a little pumpking carving. The pumpkins turned out pretty good, I'd say! Before the night was over, however, we had a tragedy with one of them. Poor little guy, he didn't stand a chance...
The swirly pumkin on the left is Ailsa's, mine is the one on the right...kind of looks like he has a sparkle on his tooth!

This is what Jason's looked like with the lights off and a candle in it. Can you guess what it is? It started out as a bear, then turned into an elk, then Jason decided it was going to be much too difficult to carve the antlers, so it turned out to be a bear after all.

Sadly, Tyson's starfish pumpkin took a terrible fall...

Let It Snow!

It FINALLY snowed here in Homer. Last night there wasn't an ounce of snow on the ground and this morning we woke up to 8 inches of powder! My car couldn't even make it up the driveway this morning so I had to hitch a ride with Colten Tutt. I gotta be honest...I almost played hooky from work. I had a good excuse, right?! Who wants to go to work when there's fresh snow to play in?! But duty calls, so here are the photos that I took from my office window. There's only one thing more torturous than having to sit inside all day when there's new snow...and that's having to sit inside all WEEK! Thank goodness it's FRIDAY!

CraZy WeEkeNd

We had quite a whirlwind weekend, but it was fun anyway. Rod and Sherry came up for a quick visit. We had a great time visiting with them, and we were sure sad to see them go. Sherry and I did a little shopping. And I really do mean "a little!" We were in search for a birthday gift for Elissa Tutt (part of the famiy Jason and I live with). Alas, Homer is a small town and starting your shopping the day before the event is pretty much doomed to failure. 13 year olds like money, right?!

I was hoping to have some photos of Rod, Sherry, Jason and I, but our camera just isn't cuttin it anymore. But we had a great time. My only complaint is that we didn't have enough time. But we made the best of it. :)

Homer's Beauty

It never ceases to amaze me how often that I take things for granted. Ever since we moved to Homer, I've been whining about how secluded and lonely it is here. I've really struggled through these first six months in a new place. But I've slowly come to realize the BEAUTY that this place holds. Yes, it's been lonely. Yes, it's been frustrating at times. But it is breathtaking and since the snow has started to fall on the mountains, I've really started to look at Homer in a different light. You know what is the best part? I get to enjoy this beautiful view from sunrise to sunset. We only have 8 hours of light and the view from my office window is superb...

My First Blog...

...and I don't have anything to say! This will be a test of how well I do at updating. I felt a little left out since we're the only "kids" without a blog! The REAL test is to see if anyone actually reads it. I'm sure you're all dying to know about the exciting adventures Jason and I have. Let me sum it for you in one word: WORK.
Until next time...
